Nature value Monoszló
The 337 meters tall Hegyestű mountain is standing between the communities of Zánka and Monoszló, being the gatekeeper of the Kál-basin. The hill shows a regular conic shape viewed from the Lake Balaton, however the northern slopes were carried away by the local stone-mine, releasing the closely 50 meters high basalt pillars of the volcano being active 5-6 million years ago. The lava cooled down in the caldera and was turned into pentagonal and hexagonal shaped basalt pillars. This site is unique in Hungary and is rare even in Europe. The stonepark established in 2004 features monoliths of rocks typical to West-Hungary. The stone blocks are arranged according to their geological age, with a small table indicating their age and origin.
