The statue of Nepomuki Szent János the patron of the water-born stands nears the Danube in front of Halászcsárda. According to the custom originating to the last century, the bargemen, fishermen and themillers celebrated this event on 16th May. To it people in great numbers came from the neighbourhood. Through years of time this event was buried in oblivion but thanks to the cultural center, since 1989 it becomes a tradition again. After dark, the local waterborne with their torches and decorated boats float along the town side of the Danube. Meanwhile they put floating-candles, the so-called jánoska, on the water. To end the way, the people can take pleasure in the sight of fireworks. In the early afternoon of Sunday, starts the procession with craft-flags, from the main square to the statue of Nepomuki Szent János decorated with garland. Here in course of litergy they confer holy orders on the wreath, which they will throw into the Danube after the celebration in memory of those died in waters and to profess the unity of the nations living by the Danube. After the ceremony the crowd fills the decorated ferry to overflowing, to listen to the Youth Brass band of Mohács, Somberek and Palotabozsok. Meanwhile on a water trip on the ferry they throw the wreath into the river. During this in the back yard of the ex cultural center the fishsoup making competition is at it’s height. To the announcement of the results the crowd from the water trip comes back and has dinner of the soups made of proficiency. The celebration ends with an open-air ball.
