Nature value Hévíz
Hévíz’s major attraction is the 4.4 ha thermal lake, the biggest warm water lake with medicinal properties in the world. At its deepest part it is 38,5 meters deep. The lake is surrounded by 50 ha of protective wood. The water of it is heated by geothermal energy, its temperature is reached as the thermal waters and the deep layer spring water mixes. During most of the summer the water temperature is around 33-35 Celsius, in the autumn and winter depending on the weather, is cooler, but never goes below 22 Celsius. The name of Hévíz was first mentioned in a charter that dates back to 1328. In the last decade of the 18th century the utilization of the healing water came into the limelight. In 1795 György Festetics had a bathing house built over the lake. IAt the beginning of the 21st century, Hévíz is one of Hungary's most favourite, dynamically developing spa towns.
