Best Medium-Sized Festival in Europe

In 2012, European Festival Awards announced the best Best Medium-Sized Festival of Europe, and it's the Heineken Balaton Sound in Zamárdi, Hungary. We congratuate!

In 2012 two Hungarian festivals were shortlisted for the European Festival Awards. Both events are among the top ten in their category: Sziget competed for the award for Best Major European Festival, while the winner Balaton Sound was in the contest for the Best Medium-Sized Festival award.

The award was received by the main organizers of Balaton Sound, Norbert Lobenwein and Zoltán Fülöp, 9th of January in Groningen, The Netherlands. They noted that the last six years of Balaton Sound is a success story in itself: the prime atmosphere of the festival was a professional and audience success from the very beginning. Since, the interest for the festival is increasing proven by more and more sold-out festival days. The organizers said: "This award is for the success of the previous years. It's an honour for us and we take it as a challenge to improve the event in order to receive it next time as well."

„This award is a huge recognition both for our company and also for Hungarian festival organizers as now we have two festivals being considered the best in their category in Europe." - says Károly Gerendai, Managing Director of Sziget Cultural Management Ltd., organiser company for Balaton Sound.

Heineken Balaton Sound started in 2007 on the shore of Lake Balaton in the town of Zamárdi. The unique atmosphere, the sunset over the lake and the top quality electronic music from chill out to house made the festival very popular rapidly. Not just the visitors, but performers said this place is fantastic, and they really enjoyed being there. Armin van Buuren, Snoop Dogg, Beastie Boys, Tiesto, David Guetta, Massive Attack, Kraftwerk, Pet Shop Boys, Fatboy Slim, De La Soul performed there among many other world-famous stars.

In 2013 we can enjoy Balaton Sound between the 11th and 14th of July. Tickets are already available.
