Budapest to host WOMEX 2015

The World Music Expo, or WOMEX for short, is scheduled for the 21st-25th October 2015. It is the first time for WOMEX in Eastern Europe, so this is quite a big privilege. In case you are not in the know, WOMEX is a huge music event, a multinational, multi-lingual conference which brings together the professionals of the Music Industry from all over the word. It is part conference, part trade show, part concert and wholly social!

Here is a video trailer of the event to put you in the picture!

After a lengthy tender procedure, Budapest won the tender to host this prestigious world-class music industry conference and will do so via a local partner firm Hangveto, at two main venues: the Budapest Palace of Arts by the Danube, and the Millennium Park (the re-used former factory complex near the transport hub of Széll Kálmán Square, seen here.)

The Director of Music Programming for WOMEX, Alexander Walter, expressed how happy he was that the huge conference will be taking place in this great city: "Budapest offers exactly the right combination of conditions for hosting an international music event with manifold requirements: from global flight connections to sufficient hotel beds; and from experienced, well-networked partners to suitable festival, conference and trade fair venues – to name just a few."

The city has hosted such large events in the past, though along with the obvious boon for service providers comes a healthy challenge for the city's accommodation, hospitality and transport infrastructure. We look forward to seeing the build up to the event throughout 2014/15.
