A38 ship overhauled and back in business!
The evening of 4th January saw some excitement as the rarely-moved, but still-working boat took to the river, with the aid of a crane to remove the walkway, the 1,500 ton structure made its way to a shipyard in Komárom. (Click on the image above to see more pictures of the night of the move.)
This ship hardly needs any introduction, but in case you don't know, it is a decomissioned stone-hauler originating from the Ukraine in 1968. It was refitted as a floating nightclub and bar and through clever marketing, good positioning and a very active and loyal band of musicians and fans, has built up quite a following. In 2012, the A38 was even listed by Lonely Planet as one of the 100 Best Bars in the world, for its chilled atmosphere, great music and unusual views.
So it is no surprise that these same fans are gearing up for a great season, with a range of jazz, alternative, and heavy metal bands lined up:
February 11th Random Trip Re-opening party
February 14th: LadányBele and Marley 69 (Bob Marley Tribute)
Feb 18th: Random trip featuring the Hoo (de) (Improvised funk and Jazz from a leading band
Feb 22nd: Wooden Shjips (US) An American group known as "the best psychedelic band in the world"
