The square at the end of Andrássy Street took its shape in 1896, on the 1000th anniversary of the Conquest. The Hall of Art opened and a law was passed to build the Museum of Fine Arts and the Millennium Memorial. Work finished in 1929: a statue gallery for prominent rulers of 1000 years and statues of the seven tribesmen of the Conquest, with a symbolic tomb of Hungarian heroes in front. The square evokes the entire history of nation and country, remembering war victims but also peace time artists, their work and enduring Hungarian cultural values. The Heroes' Square and Andrássy Street belong to the World Heritage.
