MR2 Acoustic+ From The Palace of Arts Mókus and the Fabula Rasa Festival Theatre “They say that when it comes to the band Fabula Rasa, we’re talking world music. However, it would be more accurate to say that the group produces work which, from the very start, has pushed the boundaries between genres. Indeed, there truly are a good number of characteristic musical features discernible within this music, which lend a more folksy and ethnic feeling to the songs. This derives from an enthusiasm for the music of both neighbouring peoples and those living several thousand kilometres away – from Transylvanian and Gypsy music, to Celtic traditions and black music. The eclecticism that results is perhaps simply down to the inability of the Fabula Rasa musicians to resist good music of any kind. On this occasion, the best tunes from the band’s first four albums will be heard with the accompaniment of a string quartet and the Four Bones trombone quartet. A special guest will also take the stage in the shape of Alan Burton, a true master of Celtic music who plays the Irish bagpipes. Beyond music, the group aims to leave something else behind it one day: an idea. That we are not alone, that dreamers still exist, that we draw strength from within ourselves (because there is always more hidden inside), that we can pick ourselves up when we feel downcast, and that a little love amid total chaos can work wonders: harmony, solidarity, music. This concert thus promises to be a “collective” experience. Sometimes caressing, softly prompting us to dream, sometimes fun-loving, thrilling and stirring the blood to throw plates and bang on tables, but always sincere, challenging and in tune with our hearts.” (Mókus és a Fabula) ––––––––– MR2 Acoustic+ from the Palace of Arts is a new series of performances in a concert environment and is co-produced by the public media (MR2-Petőfi Radio, m1) and the Palace of Arts (Müpa). It follows the familiar model of MR2-Petőfi Radio unplugged studio concerts. Recordings for radio and television of outstanding performers from the cream of the Hungarian popular music scene are made in the context of a series of high-quality concerts at the Palace of Arts, providing the audience with not only a concert experience but a look behind the scenes of the recording process. (Each concert in the series will be filmed for broadcast at a later date on the m1 channel in a weekend prime time slot.)
