Tourism organization Budapest
Budapest Walk Shop began to organize urban walks in 2011. Initially, we targeted locals who wanted to get more familiar with Budapest – including its hidden beauty and its shady side. While visiting a wide array of locations, we spice up our walking tours with true stories to help fellow strollers in inching closer to the city’s past and thus to the scenes of their everyday lives. The topics of our tours – which also serve as community events and sessions of urban therapy – are the following: - places of Budapest’s POLITICAL PAST: WW2, the Holocaust, fascist and communist dictatorships - VACANT BUILDINGS in Budapest and the REAL ESTATE CORRUPTION - MINORITIES AND COMMUNITIES: Jews, Romas, and immigrants - GENDER AND THE CITY: forgotten feminine spaces, LGBTQI-movement in Budapest. Since 2012, we’ve been organizing tours in English for those expats and experts who would rather face the often-bittersweet reality than to be spoon-fed with touristy fairy tales. We are well aware that tourism as a product of the consumer society pulls the wool over your eyes and is designed to make a profit. On the contrary, we offer real knowledge about the most beautiful and most multifarious city of Europe – Budapest.
