There are some major Hungarian festivals held at Lake Balaton – the ambience is absolutely perfect for relaxing daytime and partying in the night! Balaton Sound with Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Ryan and Macklemore and many more is the most well known, held between 6-10 July at Zamárdi. Also RockPart, B.My.Lake and Strand Festival are worth visiting.

Festivals of culture
Thematic or pan-art cultural festivals are also in abundance around the lake. Valley of Arts, held in the beautiful Balaton Uplands area is one of the most well-known, where courtyards, hidden valleys, old village houses host events from concerts to theater performances and artisan markets between 22-31 July.

VeszprémFest including Rosé, Riesling and Jazz Days will be held at nearby lovely town of Veszprém, with the Castle and the main square as a stage. Also check out Everness Festival at Balatonakarattya, ArtPlacc at Tihany and Hello Wood 2016 at Csórompuszta.
Samsara Festival of Siófok between 6-10 July is a must-visit for yoga fans, while Street Music Festival of Veszprém will be a real urban fiesta with musicians from all around the globe. Also music will be the main theme of Babel Sound World Music Festival held between 20-24 July at Balatonboglár.

Sailing & sports
Kékszalag (Blue Ribbon) sailing competition will take place between 14-16 July, during which hudreds of boats start from alatonfüred to circumnavigate Lake Balaton within 48 hours, aiming to win the blue ribbon ('kék szalag' in Hungarian).

Also a traditional and very popular yearly event is the Swimming Across the Lake on July 2, starting from Révfülöp.
Gastro & wine events
Wine and gastro festivals are extermely popular in Hungary. These offer a great possibility to get acquainted with Hungarian cuisine. VinCE Balaton on 14-17 July takes place in Balatonfüred, at the same time as Kékszalag Sailing competition – it is worth combining the visit to them. Also Balatonfüred will host Wine Weeks in August between 6-28., and wine is the main theme of Badacsony Wine Weeks between 15-31 July at Badacsony.

For rainy days
No reason to worry even in case of rainy weather! Lake Cave of Tapolca, which can be explored by boat, will definitely be an exciting experience, no matter what weather conditions are outside. Tihany Abbey is situated on the Tihany Peninsula: the Benedictine Abbey with it's baroque church gives a possibility to get an insight in the history of Hungary. Also Levendula Ház (Lavender House) and Kogart Art Gallery are worth exploring in Tihany.
Nearby Balatonfüred with it's century-old villas is the oldest resort town on the shores of the Hungarian Sea: visit villa of famous Hungarian writer Mór Jókai! Balatonfüred also has healing thermal waters, which we can taste from a drinking fountain. Choosing a ship excursion is also a great way to explore the beautiful lake with it's distinctive blue colour.
Balaton Uplands area, resembling Provence with it's lovely small villages is a great place for taking excursions, while regular programmes at Szigliget Castle offer an insight to historic times.
